In-Class Writing Assignment

After reading the article, the issue that Virasin presents to the audience is whether or not Barbie Dolls have become a bad influence on our culture. Her first arguement is about body image and how the Barbie Doll has the perfect body. In effect, younger girls who play with the doll admire the doll and want to be like her. This is a bad lesson for everyone, because people think the Barbie Doll is the ideal image of a women. Another dilemma she brings up is the intellectual image of a Barbie Doll. With quotes like, "Math is Hard," and, "Lets go Shopping," it tricks younger girls into what they should believe and what are the most important things in the world. The audience for this essay is everyone. From the information included, we can obviosuyl tell that its a both male and female audience, because the author brings up examples to represent the stereotype that girls are less skilled in math than boys. I think Virasins position is against the Barbie Doll because she brings that issue up first and talks more about how Barbie Dolls are bad then good. I think it was good she talked more about how Barbie Dolls are an essential to any little girl growing up and how Barbie Dolls inspire children to have dreams. She does this by bringing up examples of different types of Barbie Dolls like astronauts and scientists showing girls they can do anything.
